Great read and itÆs nice to see that the $$$'s CCP is being invested in all the right places, not just CCP staff beer allowance for fanfest. I have only one small concern; and this is with which systems will be dedicated hardware to improve performance. Right now this is at a rather crude level, sort of like monkeys with hammers there is just so much that could go wrong.
This is an awesome start guys at CCP, but start looking into ways of automating the system. Would be great to have a feature where only the CEOÆs of corporations can request a node to be dedicated for a fleet fight. They put in a request and the system name and then small program adds up all the numbers to see where resources should be dedicated.
So for example being a NC member imagine every RAWR and RZR corporation CEO says we are going to M-O for pewpew today; along with that every BOB and Axiom CEO say we are making a stand in our mighty fortress of M-O and tonightÆs the night! However down the road TRI have decided to go pewpew our mighty IRON allies, but oh noes Goonswarm have come to help out the NC. All the corporations CEOÆs have said where they think they are going to pewpew and bam simple spreadsheet magic a list of priority systems is formed. This then <insert real techie knowledge here> reallocates hardware as a pre-emptive measure for the up and coming fights.
This system means several things: -No one can claim Dev intervention, this covers CCPÆs ass! -There is a system that can be understood and is open for everyone to see. -If your whole alliance isnÆt going to show for an op you can self regulate by getting only so many ceoÆs to say they are going to fight in x,y,z system. -Allows for multiple battlefronts within the same alliance/coalition. -DevÆs can blame lack of hardware if something goes wrong, something we know they are doing something about. -Did I mention that itÆs hard to claim Dev intervention? Things this system doesnÆt allow for: -General conflict zones having increased hardware. -A large alliance doing something stupid and dedicating resources to somewhere it isnÆt needed. -Probably more stuffs. -My limited technical knowledge.
What could also be put in place is a region/constellation standby report, something like ok we know BOB are going to invade Tribute but we donÆt know where they will hit next. This would mean DevÆs monitoring Tribute and doing their wizardry if necessary, this is open to some omg dev intervention comments but its then at the alliances discretion do we want things monitoring or do we want it to remain 100% secret.
Automation is the future! (the question is: Is it possible now?) Also on a side note automation doesnÆt count as copy pasting stuck petition replies. ;)
Much love for all the great work at CCP, looking forward to a less laggy future.
